Midoriya Izuku was crying and Shouto had absolutely no idea how to get him to stop.

It was a Sunday and, since U.A. switched to a boarding school, Sundays was the night designated for Shouta, Midoriya, and Iida to study together and just “hang out” (although hanging out differed from week to week, from hero documentaries, to games and, on one occasion, each of them doing their own thing quietly, in the presence of the others). Tonight, they were all supposed to meet up in Iida’s room but when Midoriya failed to show up thirty minutes after their meet up time, they grew worried.

“He wouldn’t be out with Bakugou again, would he?” Iida asked, even as he locked up his room and followed Shouto to the stairs.

And that’s how, several minutes later, Shouto and Iida found themselves outside Midoriya’s room, listening to his best friend – his first friend, if Shouto was being truthful – sob through the door. The two heroes in training shared a look before Iida knocked on the door.

Midoriya opens the door and his eyes are red and there are tear tracks on his freckled cheeks, but he answers with a smile, “What are you guys doing here?” He didn’t seem sad at all which made no sense – he was crying, how can people cry and be happy?

“You… missed our hang out night,” Shouto said hesitantly, not sure sure how to broach the subject of the tears.

“Oh geeze, I’m so sorry – our meet up totally slipped my mind! I must have been watching so long I forgot to keep track of the time and it’s one of those things, you know? You search for something, but then you notice a related or suggested video and as soon as you click one, you’re watching the next and the next, and suddenly you’re watching something totally different than what you started with, but you just can’t stop because it’s so cute and pure and -“

Iida raises a hand, cutting off Midoriya’s mumbling, “What exactly were you so engrossed with that you forgot?”

There’s a deep breath and another blinding smile towards the both of them. “Have either of you heard of the what the fluff challenge?”

So instead of studying, they spent the last few hours before curfew watching humans cause their pets distress for their viewing pleasure, curled up on Midoriya’s bed to watch videos on his laptop.
