so, i logged into tumblr after… ahaha years. and saw i had a notification. someone reblogged this old thing and i was like \”huh, might as well post it on ao3\”.

back in college, i was in a \”writing focused\” dorm, which meant i had this weekly meeting to write stuff. i missed a lot of the meetings because i was working at the same time hahaha. the first meeting i went to, i wrote this, to the ten minute prompt \”Something Life Changing Occurred, Without Mentioning what Happened\”.

this is from dec 2, 2011

One, two, three, four, turn, two, two, three four.

Turn again, pace the length of her room once more, not caring that her parents could probably hear the tell-tale click of her heels, even though they were (Karina believed) still in the living room downstairs.

Karina couldn’t quite believe what happened, even though she was there and saw it first hand. Or part of it.  Karina was pretty sure she couldn’t take it if the new couple continued to be all lovey-dovey in the Hero TV mega-van.  The frenzied pacing continued, Karina moving around her room so she could do something, anything but think about what happened.  There better not be a call tonight from work – either job – because Karina didn’t think she had the ability to deal with it.

Wait, scratch that — if Agnes called about a robbery or another nefarious crime taking place across the city, Karina would jump on it, if only to relieve some of the built up tension.  Blue Rose could use some extra points after she had been slouching for the past few weeks, so long as Karina remembered to reign in her powers enough to not freeze them to death.

If only that bumbling, idiotic, handsome fool had —

Karina didn’t realize she was speaking aloud until she was abruptly cut off by her cellphone started buzzing on her bedside table.  The teenager stared dumbly at it for a few moments longer, before she quickly snatched it up and looked at the caller ID.

It was Mr. Tiger. Just the person she did not want to talk to at all.  That idiot, he probably wanted to ask why she had run out right after he announced…

He announced…

Not even able to think about what happened, Karina quickly pressed the Ignore button and put her cellphone back down.  How was she supposed to function at work if Mr. Tiger tried to talk to her?  Just the thought sent a chill to the bottom of her stomach, as she knew there was no way she would be able to function if their bosses wanted to do promos together.  It was worse than that time she learned he had a child who was over half her age. Karina, at the very least, thought she had a chance, since Mr. Tiger was married at some point, but it seemed love (at least to a Mr. Kotetsu T. Kaburagi) knew no gender.

Or propriety. Aren’t there laws against that in Sternbild or something?

Her phone went off again, and the girl didn’t even bother to look before pressing Ignore once more. She sat numbly on her bed, looking at her walls.  Ever since her little… crush began, Karina realized it had changed.  Posters of pop stars and foreign super models had, slowly but surely, began to change. Oh, sure, some of those singers remained, but they were older, the youngest nearly thirty, and they were drown out by pictures of Heroes.  Most of them were her fellows and co-workers — Nathan and Pao-Lin on a girl’s night out, Antonio and Keith running on the treadmills, Ivan photobombing, even when he wasn’t in his suit, and Barnaby and Kotetsu…

Kotetsu…

Kotetsu…

Dammit, Karina felt like she was going to cry.

It fucking sucked when the man you’re in love with chooses another.  Maybe she should call Barnaby up, so they could lament the fact that they both got snubbed.

if it wasn\’t obvious, this was also not Barnaby/Kotetsu 😀
original intent was Yuritetsu
