knocking on midnight’s door
by yuuTenya never expected a lot of things in his life — like Tensei retiring early to start a family with his mate, or having Eraserhead as a teacher, or somehow bringing the Idaten Agency within the top 25 best agencies to work at in the Greater Tokyo area. He especially never imagined he would go up on stage a few times a year to play his heart out to millions of fans and work on music alongside his heroic work!
His throat was a little hoarse from yelling into a microphone and sweat was drying on his skin, no longer beneath the stage lights. While his heroic duties kept him in tip top shape, his arms ached in that pleasant way after a hard day’s workout — which it was, just over two hours of nonstop playing burned almost 300 kilocalories. It had been a high energy concert and Tenya, while glad to be part of that day’s event, was more than happy to be done with the bulk of the concert-related shenanigans, such as the meet and greet and signing of far too much merchandise. Today’s members of Hero Too — Urarka, Jirou, Kaminari, Bakugou and Tenya himself — were in one of the backstage dressing rooms, lounging around and decompressing, waiting for the crowds to die down a bit before heading to wherever they needed to be this evening. Most bands had riotous after parties, but Hero Too? Most of them had shifts in the morning and getting shit faced drunk was not conducive to keeping Japan safe.
Nursing a large bottle of orange juice, he allowed the chatter of his friends and coworkers to wash over him, worn out yet satiated with their performance.
“Hey Bakubro, I didn’t realize your man was gonna be here!” Kaminari piped up from where he was tuning his guitar.
The announcement piqued everyone’s interest, as Yoarashi Inasa had been out of town assisting in rescue work earlier in the week. Tenya hadn’t even realized the other alpha was back although this wouldn’t be the first time he had returned from a mission and gone straight to a concert.
“Yeah,” Bakugou was exiting the restroom, a towel slung around one of the omega’s shoulders, “he came home early enough so I asked if he could take Deku to the show tonight.”
Uraraka made a sound of surprise. “Wait, Deku as in your supposed best friend Deku who lived overseas?”
“Wait, he’s real? Like an actual human being?”
There was a growl and the tell-tale cracklings of a small explosion in retaliation, but Kaminari was quick to step back and away from the half-hearted attack, far too used to the other blond’s aggressive and explosive personality.
“You can’t blame us Blasty! We all thought you made him up!”
“Why the fuck would I make him up!?”
Jirou, without even missing a beat, quipped, “To seem less pathetic, obviously.”
Honestly, Tenya should have stopped this even as Bakugou screeched in fury, but he was with Jirou on this one. All the stories about ‘Deku’ they had heard during the two and a half years in the dorms had to be greatly exaggerated because no one that perfect existed… and if they did, there was no way they’d be best friends with the gremlin known as Bakugou Katsuki.
He was saved from having to break up the impending fight by their stage crew — made up mostly of sidekicks and the occasional intern from their various hero agencies — who were smart enough to allow Hero Gale and the man with him into the backstage.
It’s the smell that got to Tenya first. For an alpha, he had a rather mild scent and a poor sense of smell attributed to hitting walls a little bit too often once his quirk came in and he had problems avoiding them at high speeds. So the fact that he could tell when Bakugou’s caramel and smoke scent took on a sweeter, softer tinge was a surprise. It mixed with not just the scent of windstorms and pina colada that Tenya associated with his mate, but also something… else . It was the way the world smelled right after a sudden rainstorm, something earthy and fresh that reminded Tenya of mornings running around the paths of U.A. or with Tensei when he was still a pup.
Then Tenya looked up and felt his breath catch, putting a freckled face to the delectable scent he smelled. It was hard to tell if the green haired omega was small or if it was just Yoarashi’s large frame in comparison, even as curious green eyes glanced at the congregated heroes, the alpha standing protectively in front of him, probably to stop him from getting mobbed by the overeager heroes. Then again, Tenya gulped feeling himself warm under the collar, if this “Deku” elicited reactions in others like he did in him, it was probably an extra precaution.
“DEKU!” There was the sound of explosions and suddenly Bakugou was across the room, arms wrapped around the smaller form of his supposed best friend. Even after all these years and close calls Bakugou hardly ever initiated contact with others, even the other omegas in their peer group, so the sight of the blond wrapped around someone that wasn’t his alpha was utterly foreign.
…And then Kaminari went and glomped his fellow blond omega from behind. The room was still for just a moment before Bakugou exploded into action, the cackle of mild explosions popping from his hands even as he whirled at his friend. It was even less of a lunge than the one he made earlier, probably mindful of the slighter omega hanging around his waist.
The interaction had the green haired man laughing though. “Kacchan,” he chided between his laughs and wow, what a cutesy, preschool-like nickname that no one would have ever associated with Pro Hero Ground Zero, “stop being mean to your friends and introduce us!”
Bakugou scoffed, before pointing a thumb at the green haired man, “This is Deku. And you don’t need to know anything about these extras except for Inasa who is mine and don’t you forget it.”
There went that laugh again. Well… Fuck. Tensei always said that when Iida men fell, they fell hard. He was not going to be able to rest unless he had this man’s contact information.
“What Kacchan is trying to say is I’m Midoriya-Yagi Izuku and I’m very glad to meet you all!”
Kyouka honestly didn’t mind going straight from a concert to the mixing room squirreled away for ‘Earphone Jack’s Night Time Hero’ at the radio station, didn’t mind taking the midnight shift to talk with fans and play whatever she wanted over the airwaves.
But for once, she was kind of distracted, glad that she always had a set list queued up for the night. Should she be focusing on choosing the next song? Yeah, probably. Still, she messaged into her phone:
> so how did you like the concert?
Kyouka twirled a jack around her finger as she waited for a response from Midoriya, which he had explained was his former family name. As an alpha, she really should have waited a bit longer and not shown how eager she was. But the way the green haired omega made her mind go fuzzy, the way their hearts seemed to beat in concert with each other just made her want to throw her hands up in the air and maybe sing love ballads because… wow… She had never heard someone who’s beat completed her quite like that. The closest had been Yaomomo back in high school but the way the other alpha made her feel paled in comparison to the little omega she just met. Jirou wasn’t one for love at first sight, but she definitely believed in interest at first hearing, and she was definitely interested to learn more about Midoriya Izuku.
> It was really good!
Midoriya had replied so quickly, making her quirk a smile even as she talked into the mic about the next set of songs.
Another one came in before she could respond, having to wait until the commercial break to send her own response.
> I didn’t understand all of it – your voice is really pretty but sometimes the lyrics were sung too fast.
Oh, that was a bummer — not being able to understand the lyrics gutted the song’s impact and Kyouka found herself scowling in thought. She thought about Hero Too’s song repertoire, trying to find something with an easy enough beat that Midoriya, even if his Japanese was rusty, would be able to follow along with.
> all right let me put a song for you
> you lived in america right? should be easy to understand then
> you’ll know it when you hear it.
Kyouka quickly went to her computer, already looking for the correct files to add it to the queue next, bumping down a classic J-Pop for the perfect song for Midoriya. “And for our newest fan,” Kyouka started into the microphone as the song faded, a grin obvious in her voice.
The sound of the shower was not enough to drown out the music coming from Kacchan’s impressive sound system. Izuku lounged against the couch, getting comfortable as he texted Jirou-san. It was nice that the alpha, along with Katsuki’s other friends and co-workers, were happy enough to bring him into the group, even though he just met them.
“And for our newest fan,” Earphone Jack said from the stereo’s speakers, “I’m putting on a throwback to freshman year and the start of our SuperGroup – HERO TOO!”
Suddenly there was the sound of drums, before it was joined with a guitar and a familiar voice started singing.
What am I to be? / What is my calling? / I gave up giving up / I’m ready to go!
Izuku smiled even as Jirou started sending him rapidfire texts, commenting about what was happening at the start of her’s and Kacchan’s time at U.A. and why they wrote and performed the song in the first place, starting the band Hero Too!
As the song died down, Izuku smiled, thumbing a single “♡” in reply. Jirou had been right — it was definitely uplifting, a smile gracing his face. The lyrics resonated within him and what he would have given to have been able to watch that performed live.
On the other side of the room, Katsuki made his own series of messages as he got out of the shower.
The brief pause opened into a different song and that’s when Kacchan entered the room fully, dressed in nothing but an oversized black tee and a towel around his neck as he dried off his hair.
“Your alpha doesn’t worry about you catching a cold in just that?” Izuku teased, green eyes flickering to the blond omega for a moment before going back to his phone, confirming the time for Iida-san to come by to pick him up.
“My alpha ran himself ragged to be able to get home in time to meet you and deserves to fucking sleep without me getting on his dick for a night,” Katsuki groused, but not unkindly, even as he walked over to get on the couch as well. Izuku sat up to give his best friend room, leaning against him in a move he remembered vividly from childhood, sitting back to back as the two talked about their dreams for the future. It had been years since they last did this, but the same contented feeling of pack and home had Izuku relaxing.
Maybe Kacchan felt that way too, his scent going light and sweet like perfectly melted caramel.
“So, I know you’re getting some bullshit counseling job here, but you are, first and foremost my fucking analyst and I’mma be picking your brain every time we get a big assignment, got it?”
Izuku laughed, “‘Course Kacchan, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
So maybe he wasn’t a hero like he wanted to be when he was younger, but at least Izuku would have the ability to help people.
Tenya should have expected this really, but seeing the other alpha standing in front of Bakugou’s building still surprised him. “What are you doing here?” He asked, words punctuated with his arm chopping through the space between them.
What Jirou flashed was less a smug grin and more a barring of teeth, alpha canines glinting in the morning sunlight. “Same reason you are, vice pres — help the pretty little omega out in hopes that maybe we could do something later~”
How crass! Any retort he would have made though was interrupted by the door opening, revealing an amused looking Bakugou. The omega had a smirk on his face even as he leaned casually against his
“You two knotheads are going to keep arguing out there or are you going to show Deku a good time around town?”
There was an affronted sounding “Kacchan!” from behind Bakugou, before the green haired omega elbowed his way past his taller friend to smile towards the two alphas at the door “Iida-san! And Jirou-san too! I’m surprised to see you both.”
“Well, if two people is better than one, the presence of a third person will undoubtedly help with furnishing your home!”
“Not quite,” Jirou said with a nonchalant shrug, “but Bakugou said you made plans to go to IKEA and I have never stepped foot in one. Supposedly it’s a riot.”
“While wanting to broaden your horizons is a valid enough reason, having someone else would give Midoriya-kun another perspective, plus, you are rather competent at helping put up sets which will help when we put together his new furniture.”
Midoriya’s laughter stalled anymore banter between the alphas. In relatively short order, the unlikely trio was ready to go, heading towards the elevator downstairs and Iida’s borrowed van.
“Don’t do any shit I wouldn’t do!” the blonde omega hollered from the door of his apartment.
Jirou flipped her co-worker off, not even bothering to turn around, which had Midoriya chuckling even more.
Hours later, Kyouka groaned into the table she was half laying on. The sounds of other shoppers below were muted in the half enclosed food court of the store.
Even Iida Tenya, normally so unflappable, looked drained. “Honestly, I hadn’t expected things to be… this hectic.”
The drive to the store was rather uneventful, barring the playful bickering between herself, Iida, and Midoriya over what to listen to on the radio. Over that hour, the two alphas were blessed with the omega’s undivided attention, being asked questions about their quirks, their work, and anything else the inquisitive omega could think of.
The IKEA outside of Musutafu was a large, sprawling warehouse, half plain gray cement, half IKEA blue. Armed with notepads and pencils, Kyouka was more than ready to follow Midoriya around, note down what designs the little omega liked and then try to choose one. It worked for the first twenty or so minutes as she and Iida argued over which colors would work best together while Midoriya would wander off to get yet another colorful pillow for his new apartment.
But then the cellphones started coming out, taking candid pictures of two heroes in casual clothing surrounding an unknown omega. Cellphones became pictures soon after, until a brave fan came up to them and asked for an autograph. That? That was the moment the shopping trip went down hill. Soon she and Iida were being mobbed by fans to the point where one of the shop attendants had to usher other patrons away. It took an hour before the trio could go about their shopping, this time shadowed by one of the workers to waylay aggressive fans.
Walking around the store to find everything Midoriya needed took another couple of hours and by the time they put in Midoriya’s order and hit the food court, Kyouka was bone tired. Chasing villains? Running a radio segment? Concerts? Easy.
Shopping for furniture in a white on white hellscape while dodging overzealous fans? Yeah, no, never again.
Midoriya quickly came back with a tray laden with food for the three of them, a sheepish smile on his lips. “Does this happen often when heroes go out?” he asked.
“I don’t think I’ve been swamped this badly before,” Iida admitted with a sigh, grabbing the bottle of orange juice he requested and taking a large sip.
“Koreria, after the benefit concert after that large car crash last year,” Kyouka corrected between nibbles of carrots.
There was a pause before Iida conceded. “…I rarely have been swamped this badly.”
The conversation lulled for a moment as the three started into their early, but well deserved, lunch before picking back up, this time with Iida and Kyouka using it as a chance to learn more about Midoriya. Iida asking how Izuku kept up with heroic news in Japan yielded a surprising answer.
“Uh… I like watching hero fights mostly?”
Kyouka snorted. “Even ones that happen in a different country?” Her voice had an incredulous tilt at the end.
“Well, I always try to watch anything Kacchan’s in, and sometimes he’ll send me videos of others, mostly his friends, like you! And then it kind of snowballed from there and I end up keeping track of most of the top 50.”
“Wish that cherry bomb would have said something about you. He never even hinted that you were coming to Japan.” Kyouka said with a sigh.
“If you don’t mind me asking, Midoriya,” Iida started, “why did you return to Japan? From the few stories we’ve heard, you’ve lived in America from elementary school on, so it seems strange to come back.”
Midoriya smiled around the fork in his mouth, having just taken a bite of meatball. He chewed thoughtfully for a moment before answering. “My dad actually is the owner of a quirk counselling agency so I’m officially on staff with the Tokyo branch, although Kacchan has me working as an analyst for him too.”
Any other questions had to wait as Midoriya received a text stating his order was ready for them to pick up. They quickly finished the last of the food, cleaning up after themselves before heading to the pickup area.
Well, step one in getting Midoriya-Yagi’s apartment furnished was complete.
The rest of the afternoon went better overall — a trip to Daiso and a few recycle shops on the way home to get the last of necessities, before dropping everything off at his new apartment that was literally across the street from Kacchan and two doors down from Jirou-san. Iida-san was only a few blocks away too! The blue haired alpha promised to return as soon as he gave his older brother his van back. In the meantime, Izuku and Jirou started putting together the furniture and washing his new linens. They were just finishing up the kitchen area when Iida returned, bearing groceries and taking out which, no matter how hard Izuku tried, he wouldn’t let the omega pay for.
With an extra set of hands, setting up the rest of Izuku’s new home went faster, the trio going room to room, setting up furniture and putting Izuku’s belongings into their rightful places. Night fell by the time they finished putting together his new bed. It wasn’t the perfect nest quite yet but it was good enough. Izuku launched himself onto the freshly washed comforters.
“Thank you both for your help today!” he beamed, half sitting in his bed.
“No problem,” Jirou-san started, the same time Iida-san began with, “As heroes, we must do what we can to help!”
Izuku pouted, “So it wasn’t because I’m cute and you’re interested?”
Iida sputtered and, the omega supposed, he hadn’t been expecting such a response. But it wasn’t inaccurate — Izuku had been giving both longing glances and subtle come hither pheromones the whole day. Watching big strong heroes nearly walk into a pillar because one was watching him bend over in his tights was empowering and, well.
Izuku liked them. Both of them. He’s liked them since seeing them in action during recordings of U.A. ‘s sports festival, and it’s only compounded as he watched them grow into heroes. Meeting them in person and talking to them the last few days just made it even more obvious that he wouldn’t mind doing more.
“What would you do if we said we were?” Jirou asked, a smirk on her features.
“Well,” Izuku loosely grabbed both alphas’ wrists, gently tugging them down towards the bed with him, “I wouldn’t be opposed to thanking you both for all your hard work, and if it leads to something more… well… I would love to get to know you both better too.”
Iida, no, Tenya took a chance first, placing his glasses on Izuku’s new bedside table before the alpha cupped his cheeks to look at him. He could feel Jirou’s smaller hands against his side, playing at the hem of his shirt, not touching quite yet. “We can stop this at any time, you just need to say the word, Midoriya-kun.”
A smirk played at his lips, “I’m not going to want you to.” And then he was leaning up to place a kiss Iida shyly on the mouth.
“Then let’s get started then gentlemen, because I, for one, would not mind seeing you both a bit more intimately.”
They’d have time to christen his new bedroom. And, if he was lucky, other parts of his apartment too.

Kirishima took a sip of his beer, a toothy grin on his face as he watched Izuku wrinkle his nose in distaste. Unlike everyone else at their table, the slighter omega was stuck with juice and soda, rather than the various alcoholic beverages the others sported. It was for the best though.
“I can’t believe out of all of us, you’re the one who got knocked up first Midoriya! You all’ve been together for, what, six months?”
“Trust me when I say it wasn’t planned at all,” Izuku gave a sheepish grin from behind his glass, his opposite hand against his stomach. “But I’m not unhappy about the turn of events.”
“Of course, if you were unhappy we would have supported you regardless!” Tenya suddenly exclaimed, “Neither Kyouka nor I am so callous to not take your own preferences into consideration and we are a tad bit young! Why, my brother didn’t decide to start having children until he was in his thirties!” Tenya would have probably continued on if Kyouka hadn’t poked him with one of her earjacks, passing him a drink to calm down a bit. The soft interaction made Izuku smile, even as he recalled how careful the two had been since they realized he was pregnant, how much they wanted to make sure he was okay.
“So it’s going to be a surprise, if the pup’s got Iida’s engines or Jirou’s jacks!”
“Or it could be more like Midoriya’s quirk,” Todoroki chimed in, pulling his omega further into his lap. “Or a different quirk entirely based on the grandparents. Speaking of, I don’t think I ever heard what your quirk was.” The half-hot, half-cold alpha gave the omega a curious look.
“You know, I don’t think I ever heard what it was either!” Kirishima exclaimed from his place within Todoroki’s arms.
Izuku gave a strained laugh, “Um, well, my quirk is actually called ‘Activation’ but my family is a bit all over the place genetically? So our kids could have a little bit of anything.”
Kirishima gave an impressed whistle, “Are any of your fam taking bets on it?”
“They uh… don’t actually know yet? About the pup or uh… Tenya or Kyouka.”
That caused Kacchan to choke on his drink, resolved easily enough with a hearty clap on his back from his alpha. “You fucking shit nerd! How the hell have you not told your parents that you’re dating!?”
“It just never came up!”
Kacchan laid his head on the table, groaning. There was no way that Uncles Toshi and Hisashi would not blow a gasket, let alone what Auntie Inko would do when she found out.
And then, because Deku is a shitty nerd and also the dumbest omega in existence, the other added, “Speaking of, my siblings are planning on coming by soon? I guess I can tell them then!”
Fuck. “You’re on your own Deku, ‘cause I’m going to put Ears on a fucking long term mission before they get here and I’d suggest you get one yourself.” The last was directed at his former class vice president. Katsuki knew Deku’s older siblings, and while Tomura had the obvious terrifying quirk, Melissa had absolutely zero qualms with making death rays or resorting to human experimentation if it was to protect her precious little brother. It only got worse when the two of them mated and officially united the Yagi-Shimura-Midoriya and Shields-Yagi families together.
“Pfft,” Kyouka smothered a laugh, taking a hearty gulp from her beer, “it’s the in-laws, how bad can it be?”
“I agree,” Tenya added from the other side of their omega, who seemed to be sinking further and further into his seat as he thought about what would be happening soon. “Why, Tensei has been complaining about not seeing Izuku more! Maybe we can even schedule a brunch while your siblings are here!”
“Well shit, can’t say I didn’t warn ya.”
There was a lot I wish I got into – such as the crazy antics Deku and his family were up to in America, how exactly AFO and All Might ended up together with Inko and the ripple effects from it (i.e., no Kurogiri), etc – but that would have probably made the fic three or ten times longer and I\’d never finish lol. Maybe in the future?
Thank you again MatchaMilk for your amazing art and for working with me!
