So I combined a little bit of prompt 2 and a little bit of prompt 3! I hope you like it <3
just that normal 9 to 5
by yuu“Seishirou-san.” Subaru’s voice pierces through the quiet haze. “About our upcoming week in the field…”
The man gives his counterpart a critical eye, an amused smile hidden behind the hand holding a cigarette to his lips. Around them, the breeze dances gaily, as if in anticipation of their rooftop rendezvous. “I believe I’m on my break now Subaru-kun,” and he hardly bothers to hide the amusement in his voice. “And work matters are better left on the clock.”
The younger angel gives a small sigh, “I know that but–”
Anything else Subaru had to say is interrupted by the roof door opening with a bang and a familiar – if dreaded – voice rang out. “Subaru-san there you are!”
Seishirou takes another long drag of his cigarette watching Subaru interact with the younger angel of Miracles, who continues to shoot looks of discontent his way. Eventually, the green eyed man sighs. Looks like they won’t get to talk about work any time soon. Well, no matter, Subaru can give him a rundown when he sees him in his apartment later that night.
“I apologize, we’ll have to continue our conversation later,” Subaru-kun makes a perfunctory bow before
If anything, this makes the smile grow wider. Yes, Seishirou supposes, they’ll just have to bring their work home tonight as well.
In the stairwell, heading down to the lower levels, Subaru hides his frustration behind a placid countenance. “Kamui-kun, is there a reason why you interrupted my conversation with our coworker?” He doesn’t say again but the thought is there at the tip of his tongue.
“I don’t see why you want to hang around him,” Kamui says in lieu of an answer. “He’s one of those angels of death!”
“I would certainly hope he’s a shinigami when you consider the fact that he’s my senior in my department.”
“Subaru-san is very different though! You deal with peaceful deaths and accidents! Not murders and assassinations like that man.”
Subaru didn’t have the heart – or the patience – to explain that accidental deaths could be just as, if not more, gruesome than the premeditated ones that Seishirou dealt with. Well, no matter, for now he just needed Kamui-kun to stop following him around. “Kamui-kun?” The younger angel perks up, giving Subaru his full attention, “Don’t you have a staff meeting to be going to with Fuuma-kun? I was under the impression that your department had a large meeting–” Here, Subaru pulls out his phone, flipping it open to check the Heavenly Time, “an hour? I assumed it was this week since you mentioned it before.”
If Subaru was more vindictive (or maybe more like Seishirou-san), he probably would take pleasure in how Kamui’s face blanches so quickly at the reminder. Instead he gives him a pointed look. “You shouldn’t leave Fuuma-kun to do the presentation by himself.”
That gets Kamui moving, apologizing for leaving early and heading off to, presumably, find his partner. Now alone in the hallway, Subaru makes his way back to his cubicle.
Paperwork weeks are always a drag because inevitably someone would pull him or Seishirou away from the other, making everything much more tedious. He has considered on more than one occasion to ask to have their paperwork weeks switched so he wouldn’t have to be in the office the same time as Kamui – the biggest offender – but he knew how that would go. Director Ichihara would just smile enigmatically and advise it was all fate and they shouldn’t meddle further. Going above her to speak with Clow – God – directly would likely get him another enigmatic smile and probably be transferred to a different department.
Subaru had worked too hard and too long to get transferred here, to be with Seishirou once again, and he despite not particularly liking his job – he was a rather poor reaper, constantly trying to find ways to give his targets just a little bit more time, to let them have just a moment to say their goodbyes – he was damn good at it.
…That did not, however, make filing paperwork any easier. After placing the folders he had earlier in his bag to take home for perusal later, Subaru decides to make sure both his and Seishirou’s paperwork for the previous week was in order and get started for the next week.
Hours later, Subaru returns to his apartment. It’s unusually dark as he steps through the genkan, switching into his slippers by muscle memory and quickly turning on the light. There’s no laughter as Hokuto putters around their kitchen and it’s only now that he remembers that his twin is out of town, the Angel of Fashion following some designer and model to their first Paris Fashion Show. She’s rather proud of the pair and had fought tooth and nail against some of the other Angels for the honor. He probably could call her if he wants – the time difference wasn’t too severe – but then she’ll start asking questions and well…
Whatever spiral Subaru was about to toss himself into is interrupted by a sharp knock at his door. Subaru was still in the midst of turning on every light in his home so he quickly backtracks. Opening the door reveals Seishirou, still in the suit he was wearing at work but with a number of take out bags, one from a curry restaurant that they’ve eaten at several times before and another from a patisserie that Hokuto was raving about last week. “We didn’t get a chance to speak earlier so I decided to drop in.”
He stares at the other man for a few moments before sighing. “I thought you wanted work matters to stay on the clock?” Subaru doesn’t stop the taller man from entering though, instead opening the door wider. Seishirou hands him the takeout and the younger man takes the food into the kitchenette.
Subaru doesn’t need to check to know the door is closed and locked and Seishirou would be following along once he switches into the indoor slippers the Sumeragi twins leave out for him. True to his expectations, he feels the other’s presence crowding him against
“We probably shouldn’t be doing this,” Subaru says with a soft laugh.
“I won’t complain to HR if you don’t,” is Seishirou’s blaise reply as he leans down, leaving a kiss against the nape of his neck. “Although maybe we should do something that would really give them a headache.”
“Food first, then… maybe after we can have a bit of fun before we get to work.”
