four yules 3
by yuuHolidays on the front lines were bleak. There was no fighting for the day – ceasefires from the (officially unofficial) Yuletide truce meant neither side would be firing shots at each other – but Katsuki couldn’t shake the nervous energy he had been plagued with all day. Talks of going into the nearby town for drinks or even into the enemy trenches for some conversations was being bandied about, neither of which sounded appealing to the alpha.
“Hey something’s happenin’,” Kirishima nudged Katsuki, pointing towards the commotion at the back of the formation. Even beneath the smells of alpha pheromones, sulphur, decay and the swollen clouds, he could make out the twinge of familiarity that was coming towards him.
“Deku, what the fuck!”
Someone was pushing the way towards them, with one body obviously trying to outpace the group. Only Commander Iida’s quick arm work kept whatever boxes his nerd was holding from dropping onto the muddy ground as the omega just let go and ran full tilt at the blond. Katsuki was hit with all one hundred fifty pounds of tiny omega screaming with joy, barely keeping the two of them upright as Izuku hugged him around the middle.
The omega squeezed him tight, burrowing his face to Katsuki’s body and taking in the fresh scent of caramel he had been missing, even as Katsuki leaned down a bit to do the same into Izuku’s curly hair, curling his arms around him. Scented towels or shirts every few weeks just wasn’t the same as having Deku in his arms.
“Missed you Kacchan,” the omega mumbled into his chest.
“Missed you too nerd.” Katsuki squeezed back, just as gently.
Their moment would have lasted longer if only Kirishima didn’t make an over-exaggerated sniff as if he was moments away from crying. “You two are just too cute bro!”
Holidays on the front lines suck… but having your mate come to make sure you were doing well makes them brighter.
(Now if only Katsuki didn’t have to have a screaming match to make Izuku get back to the safety of the capital before New Year’s)
